✨✨✨AI is Coming, Are you ready? ✨✨✨
Young entrepreneurs in emerging markets, especially those involved in freelancing and content creation, face a pivotal moment. The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is set to revolutionize industries across the globe. For freelancers and aspiring entrepreneurs in fields like content writing, virtual assistance, and more, the traditional mantra of "Learn in Rupees(aka local currency) and Earn in Dollars" (EID) is under threat.
The gig economy has long been a source of income for many, allowing individuals to leverage local education and skills to earn in stronger currencies. However, the landscape is rapidly changing. AI tools are becoming increasingly capable of performing tasks that once required human intelligence and creativity. If you're already in this space, or looking to enter, some hard thinking and strategic adjustments are necessary to stay competitive.
Breaking Down the Issue
Market Squeeze: AI technologies are advancing at an unprecedented pace. Recent releases from companies like OpenAI and Google have showcased AI systems that can write articles, create designs, provide customer support, and even translate languages with high accuracy. These advancements mean that the market for human-provided services is shrinking as AI becomes more capable and cost-effective.
Erosion of Competitive Advantage: Freelancers from emerging markets have traditionally capitalized on lower living costs to offer competitive rates on global platforms. However, AI tools can now perform many of these services faster, cheaper, and around the clock. This erodes the competitive advantage that freelancers in emerging markets have enjoyed.
Adapt or Perish: For those already established in the freelancing space, there is a pressing need to reassess their skills and services. AI is not just a competitor but can also be a powerful ally if leveraged correctly. The key is to identify how AI can enhance your work rather than replace it.
Answering the Question: Are You Ready?
1. Embrace AI, Don’t Fear It
AI is a tool, and like any tool, its value depends on how it’s used. As an entrepreneur or freelancer, you should explore how AI can enhance your offerings. For instance, AI can handle repetitive tasks, allowing you to focus on more complex and creative aspects of your work. This not only improves efficiency but also increases the value of your services.
2. Upskill Continuously
The rapid pace of technological change means that continuous learning is essential. Invest in learning about AI and how it can be integrated into your workflow. Online courses, webinars, and tutorials can provide valuable insights. By staying ahead of the curve, you ensure that your skills remain relevant and in demand.
3. Diversify Your Skill Set
Relying on a single skill or service can be risky in a rapidly evolving market. Diversify your offerings to include services that are less susceptible to automation. For example, while AI can assist in content creation, it still struggles with tasks that require deep emotional intelligence and complex problem-solving. Building a broader skill set can help you stay resilient in the face of technological disruption.
4. Focus on High-Value Services
Identify and specialize in high-value services that AI cannot easily replicate. This includes areas like strategic consulting, personalized coaching, and creative work that requires a human touch. By positioning yourself as an expert in a niche area, you can command higher rates and reduce competition from automated services.
5. Build a Strong Personal Brand
In a crowded market, a strong personal brand can set you apart. Invest time in building your online presence, showcasing your expertise, and creating a portfolio that highlights your unique strengths. A strong personal brand not only attracts clients but also establishes you as a thought leader in your field.
6. Collaborate with AI
Rather than viewing AI as a threat, see it as a collaborator. Use AI tools to streamline your workflow, enhance your productivity, and deliver higher-quality work to your clients. For example, AI can help with initial drafts, data analysis, and routine tasks, freeing you up to focus on strategy and creativity.
Net net…
The rise of AI is inevitable, but it doesn't have to be a threat. For young entrepreneurs and freelancers, the key lies in adaptation and continuous improvement. Embrace AI as a tool that can enhance your capabilities, diversify your skill set, and focus on delivering high-value services. By doing so, you can navigate the challenges of a changing market and continue to thrive in the global economy.
The Year was 1970
Outcomes
In the fall of 2001, the picturesque campus of the University of Georgia buzzed with anticipation. Warren was coming to campus.
As Buffett took the stage, he greeted the students with his characteristic humility and charm. Instead of diving into market trends or stock tips, he posed a deceptively simple yet profoundly insightful question:
“If you could invest in a friend and get 10% of their income for life, who would you pick?”
The room was filled with thoughtful silence as students pondered the question. After giving them a moment to reflect, Buffett followed up with:
“Why would you invest in that person? What character traits do they have?”
This exercise wasn’t just about identifying friends with promising financial futures. It was a deeper exploration into the qualities that define true success. Students identified traits such as integrity, resilience, empathy, and passion—characteristics that not only foster personal achievement but also inspire trust and admiration from others.
Then, Buffett shifted the perspective:
“If you could short a friend’s earnings, who would you pick and why?”
This time, the exercise focused on identifying traits that lead to failure or mediocrity. The students recognized negative traits like dishonesty, laziness, arrogance, and lack of focus—qualities that can sabotage potential and erode relationships.
Codifying Timeless Lessons
Buffett’s questions were more than a thought experiment; they were a blueprint for personal development. By encouraging the students to recognize admirable and detrimental traits in others, he provided a mirror for self-reflection. Here are the key lessons we can draw from this exercise:
Invest in Integrity: Just as you would choose to invest in someone trustworthy and ethical, strive to embody these traits. Integrity builds a foundation of trust and respect that is invaluable in any aspect of life.
Cultivate Resilience and Passion: Those who persevere through challenges and remain passionate about their pursuits are often the ones who achieve lasting success. Foster these qualities in yourself to navigate life’s ups and downs with grace.
Embrace Empathy: Understanding and caring for others not only enriches personal relationships but also enhances professional interactions. Empathy is a cornerstone of effective leadership and collaboration.
Avoid Destructive Traits: Recognize and consciously avoid traits such as dishonesty, laziness, and arrogance. These behaviors can undermine your potential and damage your relationships.
Applying Buffett’s Wisdom to Life and Happiness
Imagine a scenario where you are starting a new job. You have two colleagues: one who embodies the positive traits identified in Buffett’s exercise and one who exhibits the negative traits. Working with the former, you find yourself motivated, supported, and inspired. Your collaboration leads to innovative projects and a fulfilling work environment. On the other hand, dealing with the latter results in frustration, mistrust, and a toxic atmosphere.
Now, consider your personal life. Imagine investing time in friendships that are built on mutual respect, kindness, and support. These relationships enrich your life, providing joy, stability, and a sense of belonging. Conversely, friendships marred by jealousy, dishonesty, and negativity drain your energy and hinder your personal growth.
Buffett’s exercise teaches us that the principles of sound investment apply not only to finances but also to personal and professional relationships. By consciously choosing to adopt positive traits and avoid negative ones, we can enhance our own lives and contribute positively to the lives of others.
As you reflect on Buffett’s wisdom, ask yourself: who would invest in you? What traits would make you a worthy investment? And equally important, what traits should you work to eliminate? By internalizing these lessons, you can navigate the complexities of life with a clearer sense of purpose and a greater potential for happiness and success.
A Call to Reflect and Act
Warren Buffett’s talk at the University of Georgia was more than a memorable event; it was a transformative experience that offered timeless wisdom. As you go about your daily life, keep his questions in mind. Strive to be the person others would invest in, and consciously avoid the traits that lead to failure. By doing so, you can create a life filled with meaningful achievements and lasting happiness.
One New Thing (That you should know)
Why research is Paramount!
Coca Cola released a German advert celebrating the 75th anniversary of Fanta’s 1940 founding in Nazi Germany. Before it got pulled, it stated it wanted to “bring the feeling of the good old times back.”
Boring Stuff That Scales
It's a widespread notion that a successful business must start with a revolutionary idea. But in reality, this is a myth.
Businesses often begin not with a concept but with a deep-seated passion, an innate drive, and a commitment to crafting something you truly care about and that can be as boring as they come.
Numerous entrepreneurs have thrived by building businesses around their passions, even when similar solutions already existed. They take the boring and add some level of scale to it…
Take Spotify, for instance. Music streaming was already an established concept with players like Pandora and iTunes.
Yet, through a unique approach and relentless dedication, Spotify transformed the music industry, becoming the go-to platform for millions of users worldwide.
→ Innovation isn't always about inventing something new. → It's about pursuing what you love with dedication.
When you're passionate, you naturally delve into it—studying successful ventures, keeping up with emerging trends, and understanding the fundamental reasons behind their success.
→ Passion ignites persistence → You derive joy from the process → It becomes an essential part of your life
The conventional idea of work-life balance fades away. Instead, your life and business blend seamlessly, creating a cohesive and fulfilling journey the more boring it is, the more scalable it gets over time.

Empowering Youth from Developing Countries to Travel the World. Some ideas to get you started.
Traveling from a developing or third-world country can seem like an unattainable dream for many young people. Visa restrictions and financial constraints often pose significant barriers, making international travel a challenging endeavor. However, with creativity, resourcefulness, and strategic planning, it is possible to break these barriers and embark on a memorable journey. But it does not come without hard work, planning, saving and figuring shit out. Here are some ideas to explore to enable you to experience what the world has to offer first hand.
Student or Cultural Exchange Programs
Educational and cultural exchange programs present another viable route for young travelers. Programs like Erasmus, AFS Intercultural Programs, and various cultural exchange scholarships can provide both visas and funding for travel and study abroad. These programs not only facilitate travel but also offer enriching educational experiences and cultural immersion.
Freelancing and Remote Work
In the digital age, freelancing and remote work offer flexible opportunities to earn money from anywhere in the world. Platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer connect individuals with clients seeking skills in writing, graphic design, programming, digital marketing, and more. By leveraging these platforms, young travelers can build a steady income stream to support their travel plans.
Travel Grants and Scholarships
Numerous organizations, universities, and NGOs offer travel grants and scholarships to support young travelers. Programs like the Fulbright Program, Chevening Scholarships, and grants from cultural institutions can provide the necessary funding for travel and educational pursuits abroad.
Work and Travel Programs
Programs such as Workaway, WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms), and Au Pair offer opportunities to work in exchange for accommodation and food. These programs reduce travel costs significantly and provide unique experiences, allowing travelers to immerse themselves in different cultures and communities.
Volunteer Abroad
Volunteering abroad is a meaningful way to travel and make a positive impact. Programs like International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ) and Projects Abroad provide opportunities to work on various community projects in exchange for accommodation and meals. This approach not only reduces travel costs but also offers a deeper cultural experience and a sense of fulfillment.
Household Staff. What?
Last but not least, some thing most people will look down upon and typically not explore are personal family office roles for the ultra rich. From personal valet to butlers, to concierge to travel organizers to house managers and beyond. There is a world of executive placements in the house hold staffing industry, little explored by widely abundant, as the rich always have money and access. A similar one in the space is a tutor for their kids. You have to find, refine, define what you want to do, then be prepared to take a leap of faith and embark on your travel journey. It wont be easy but it is possible. Start local, build regional, then go international, there is definitely a path to global mobility using this.
